Forest for the Trees

Yes, yes, it's a cliche, but it's just a temporary title. I'm applying to the summer writing programs I can find up here (which is sad- nowhere's as good as Govie school) and I've been working on some poetry. Let me know what you think!

Can’t see the forest for the
trees, not when new trees are sprouting
up each day and this one blocks our
view of the convenience store and this one
is dry and flammable. This
one has names in a heart,
names whose owners live a thousand miles
apart, they burn off like warts, like
spots on a person high with fever, he
pariahs in his house and dies alone and we

can’t see the people for the disease, and
she runs into a convenience store, in the red
eye of the shiny Coke cans in the freezer she
shivers.

Trees inflamed, in flames, it’s a wildfire that spreads
like gossip, the wolves cough in the sunset burning
them like charcoal, so much dead smoke
like clouds above dry ice, she takes the bags
from the freezer and they melt in her car.

The trees encroach on the convenience
store and the convenience store encroaches
on our lives and did you hear about the
robbery? Held up with a gun I read about it
in the paper, biggest story since the
fire and Armageddon is just a movie and she
and the world are fine.

She holds her head underwater and wonders which one of them is going crazy.

holy moley guacamole that was some fine writing! there's so much I love... can't see the people for the disease...the red eye of the shiny coke cans in the freezer...dead smoke...she takes the bags from the freezer and they melt in her car... and then the entire last stanza and line

I don't see any flaws, this poem is beautiful
